Mitsui Bussan Secure Directions Launches Data Security (DSPM) Implementation Support Service Leveraging Generative AI to Inventory, Visualize, and Automatically Classify Sensitive Enterprise Data

March 26, 2026: End-to-end support for discovering, visualizing, and classifying unstructured data using Ohalo’s Data X-Ray combined with the operational expertise of MBSD and Macnica.

Mitsui Bussan Secure Directions, Inc. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Hiroyuki Suzuki; hereinafter “MBSD”) announced that it will begin offering a new Data Security (DSPM) Implementation Support Service starting April 1. This service utilizes generative AI to inventory, visualize, and classify sensitive data dispersed across enterprise environments.

The service leverages Data X-Ray, a DSPM solution developed by Ohalo Ltd. (Headquarters: London, UK; CEO: Kyle DuPont; hereinafter “Ohalo”), which features advanced AI-driven data classification technology. MBSD provides comprehensive support ranging from current-state assessments and policy development to the inventorying, visualization, and classification of customer data.

Furthermore, by automatically integrating the classification results identified through this service with Microsoft Purview, customers can seamlessly connect to MBSD’s separately offered Microsoft Purview Utilization Service, enabling end-to-end workflows from data-centric detection to alerting and incident response.

As the exclusive distributor of Ohalo in Japan, Macnica, Inc. (Headquarters: Yokohama, Kanagawa; President and Co-CEO: Kazumasa Hara; hereinafter “Macnica”) is responsible for implementation design and post-deployment technical support for Data X-Ray. Macnica also supports the design and configuration required for integration with Microsoft Purview, delivering a fully integrated deployment and operational support model in collaboration with MBSD.

Background

Growing data management risks driven by DX and cloud adoption

With the rapid expansion of SaaS and cloud storage adoption, enterprise sensitive data is increasingly dispersed across environments ranging from on-premises file servers to multiple cloud platforms. In particular, unstructured data such as Office documents and text-based information, accounts for approximately 90% of enterprise data. While easy to create and duplicate, this data presents a major challenge: organizations often lack clear visibility into where sensitive information resides and what type of data it is.

Against this backdrop, Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) which focuses on assessing risk by examining data itself has gained attention. However, accurate identification of vast volumes of data through data classification and labeling has remained the primary bottleneck to DSPM adoption.

Service overview

DSPM implementation support focused on Sensitive Data Discovery and Classification

MBSD’s new service focuses on data classification, the core component of effective DSPM implementation and operations. It provides prioritized support covering the entire process, from developing document management policies and classification frameworks to the visualization and automated classification of sensitive data.

1. Current-State Assessment and Policy Development

For organizations considering DSPM but lacking established data handling policies, MBSD conducts interviews to understand data usage and operational practices, then supports the development of internal policies such as document management guidelines that serve as prerequisites for DSPM implementation.

2. Classification Category and Rule Design

Based on established internal policies, MBSD supports intellectual supports the creation of concrete classification categories and rules designed for use with Data X-Ray’s data classification capabilities.

3. Data Discovery, Classification, and Label Integration

The service automatically scans data distributed across on-premises and cloud environments, inventories and visualizes all data containing sensitive information, and performs automated classification and labeling according to predefined rules. MBSD also supports the design and configuration required to integrate classification results with Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels. Ongoing monitoring and operational support after label integration can be provided through MBSD’s Microsoft Purview Utilization Service.

Key features

Comprehensive DSPM Support by MBSD and Macnica Powered by Data X-Ray.

End-to-end support from MBSD and Macnica

Successful DSPM implementation requires defining what constitutes sensitive or critical information and accurately identifying where such data exists. By combining MBSD’s security consulting expertise with Macnica’s deep technical knowledge of Data X-Ray, the companies provide one-stop support, from policy and classification design to implementation of sensitive data discovery, visualization, and automated classification.

High-precision Data Discovery and Classification using Generative AI

Data X-Ray scans across multi-platform environments, including on-premises file servers and cloud storage platforms such as SharePoint and OneDrive, to visualize dispersed unstructured data. In addition to traditional pattern matching and dictionary-based methods, it leverages generative AI-driven contextual analysis and OCR (optical character recognition) to achieve highly accurate automated classification of information that was previously difficult to identify.

Seamless integration with Microsoft Purview

The service supports the design and configuration required to automatically integrate high-precision classification results with Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels, enabling customers to transition smoothly into the next phase of operational monitoring and governance.

Primary use cases

This service is designed for organizations facing challenges such as:

  • Rapid expansion of cloud and SaaS usage, resulting in limited visibility into the location and nature of sensitive files

  • Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Purview deployments where file classification and labeling have not kept pace

  • Uncertainty around where to begin DSPM or broader data security initiatives

  • Concerns that sensitive information may be referenced by generative AI systems

MBSD, Ohalo, and Macnica will continue to strengthen their collaboration to support customer-specific data utilization and security initiatives.
